Every day, brave rangers at national parks across South Africa put their lives on the line against better-equipped poachers to protect the bounty that nature has blessed the country with. Many Rangers have lost their lives against illegal poachers and have paid the ultimate price to protect the natural heritage of the continent.
On the invitation of Amrut Foundation and the SANParks Honorary Rangers, avid amateur golfers, prominent businesspeople, and celebrity sports stars rallied around the Rangers by playing at Amrut’s Inaugural Golf Day at Skukuza Golf Club in the Kruger National Park. These women and men came together and played a full day of golf and were regaled at a gala dinner, in the safe knowledge that the monetary contribution they made would go towards acquiring better equipment for the Rangers, who were on patrol while the dinner commenced in their honor.
The presence and active participation of rugby legend, and 1996 World Cup winning full-back, Andre Joubert and the outgoing and affable Dean Greyling helped boost the spirit of giving at the function. The cricketing world was represented by the quiet but warm presence of Protea test captain Dean Elgar, further adding to the grandeur of the event. Alongside presentations from Amrut and the Honorary Rangers, event emcee Nicholas Goliath helped to bring a deeper focus on the responsibility of all sections of South Africa towards helping to protect those who protect.
In addition to the proceeds of the golf day and dinner, which were yet to be reconciled, the Amrut team also announced a contribution of 300 raincoats tailor-made by the Khuphuka Sewing Initiative in Bertrams, Johannesburg, for the rangers who prevail over varying weather conditions to execute their duties.
