The Amrut Foundation, in collaboration with the established bulk grain traders Rand Agri, successfully funded and completed the first stage of extensive renovations at Middelburg Care Village. This initiative is a testament to their commitment to social responsibility and community support. The inauguration of the refurbished facilities was marked by a handover attended by the Amrut team, Rand Agri executives, the Care Village trustees, and local media representatives, where Ms. Meshen Moodley
from Amrut formally presented the upgraded premises to the Village trustees.
The Middelburg Care Village, which plays a vital role in safeguarding the well-being and providing a stable home for over 108 children displaced from their homes due to various hardships, received accolades from both organizations. Both Amrut and Rand Agri assured their unwavering support towards the ongoing project until the second phase of renovations is realized. In a significant move, Build It Middelburg also joined the cause, promising material contributions to aid in the project’s
completion and expressing continued support for Amrut’s construction endeavours.
Child safety is a paramount concern in South Africa, where various registered organizations work tirelessly to protect and provide for vulnerable children, offering services ranging from early intervention to the provision of safe car seats and home safety devices, thereby simulating family-like care for children without parental support. The renovation efforts at Middelburg Care Village align with these crucial objectives, aiming to create a secure and nurturing environment for the children in their care.
The renovation project at Middelburg Care Village includes significant upgrades to the living quarters, educational facilities, and recreational areas to ensure a conducive environment for the holistic development of the children – allowing for 15 children to sleep more comfortably in the newly renovated space. Construction saw the completion of plumbing, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms and flatlets for the caregivers and included a supply of new mattresses. These improvements are designed to provide the children with a sense of stability and normalcy, crucial for their growth and well-being. This collaborative effort, drawing on the support and generosity of the local community and businesses, reflects a shared dedication to the welfare of the children and the betterment of society at large.
