The Amrut Foundation, committed to enhancing social development in South Africa, recently completed the installation of new ablution facilities at Lee Primary School, Ilembe, in KZN. This initiative involved the transformation of a disused storeroom into
a fully functional sanitation facility. The Foundation’s ongoing efforts to upgrade such amenities underscore their core belief in upholding the dignity of all children, which is intrinsically linked to access to clean and safe ablution facilities.
This commitment not only fosters improved hygiene practices but also ensures that children’s health and uninterrupted education are prioritized. On completion of the project, the school’s management expressed profound gratitude to the Amrut
Foundation and pledged to diligently maintain the newly installed facilities.
In the broader context of South African schools, the issue of inadequate sanitation remains pressing. Recent press reports indicate that over 3,000 schools across the country still rely on pit latrines, which pose significant health risks and infringe on the
basic human rights of students. The Amrut Foundation’s work in providing safe and dignified sanitation is a vital step towards rectifying these longstanding challenges within the educational infrastructure of South Africa.
